Since I never watched (& just purchased) the made-for-Sci-Fi Channel sequels, I revisited 1995's SPECIES. Fun times! Michael Madsen in top 90s tough-guy form; Marg Helgenberger scientifically testing crime scene materials 5 years before doing it on CSI; Alfred Molina a decade before he was Doc Ock; 15-year-old Michelle Williams, 3 years before Dawson's Creek; Forest Whitaker (cuz he was in EVERYthing); & Ben Kingsley as Xavier, the leader of this ragged X-Men-style group. But me & the college roomies were 19 at the time I originally saw this. Would we have been as interested if newcomer Natasha Henstridge wasn't the main attraction? 😳 One of my oldest Blu-rays, this is a 2006 pressing from Sony. Still fun to watch.

#OTD in 1953, Portland Wrestling premiered on TV. I stumbled across a DVD recently, PORTLAND WRESTLING SERIES VOL. 1, which featured some childhood faves, mainly Roddy Piper, Billy Jack Haynes & Rip Oliver. Check out my review at DrunkTV.net!

My @classicpopmag subscriber copy arrived today. Have you listened to the new @garynuman album?

Finally got around to watching my Blu-ray of CUTTING CLASS (released in 1989, shot in 87-88) - Brad Pitt's first major role. But I watched it for Jill Schoelen, of course. More miracle work by @vinegarsyndrome. Includes a great new interview with Schoelen in the special features.

It's wild & colorful, with a female led gang of bad gals giving Jem & the Holograms arch enemies The Misfits a run for their money in the style department. PUNK VACATION was filmed between 1984 & 1987, but didn't get released until it went straight to video in 1990. An early @vinegarsyndrome release, the disc includes the same producer's NOMAD RIDERS (1984) as an extra (in SD, from the only remaining video source).

More video store nostalgia from @vinegarsyndrome's Archive line with 1989's GRAVE SECRETS. which I found to be a fairly fun & engaging ghost story. Starring familiar faces Renée Soutendijk & Paul Le Mat.

No karate, kids - just those evil blues. @millcreekent has released CROSSROADS (1986) on Blu-ray, starring Ralph Macchio, Joe Seneca & Jami Gertz (sigh). Read my review at MoviesandDrinks.com.

A little throwback tonight with THE CELLAR (1989), another direct-to-video creature feature resurrected in HD by @vinegarsyndrome. The story behind the making of the film is just as fun.

'All-American Murder' (1991) was fun! Hokey, jokey and illogical, just how I like my high school-era DTVs. What made me chuckle are the police officers' refusal to ever use handcuffs (would've solved 90% of their issues), & Charlie Schlatter's hair catching wind during the special feature interview. Oh, & Christopher Walken, of course. Also, Josie Bissett is in this, too *sigh*... Another great @vinegarsyndrome release.
