Jean-Claude Van Damme. Need I say more?
Of course not, but here’s the quick and dirty: Van Damme returns in Kickboxer: Vengeance to mentor young fighter Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi), who seeks revenge after his brother is lured into a fight where he’s over-matched and killed.
It’s been years–no, decades–since I watched the original Kickboxer in junior high. What initially looks like a passing-of-the-torch sequel is actually a reboot — Moussi plays the same character Van Damme played in the original 1989 film.
If seeing Van Damme in a Kickboxer movie again isn’t enough, take a glance at the rest of the cast, which includes the likes of Dave Batista, Gina Carano, and Georges St-Pierre.
In a sad coincidence, Sloane’s brother, Eric, who is killed early in the film’s revenge-plot set-up, is played by former stuntman Darren Shahlavi. This would be Shahlavi’s final role as he died in January of 2015 after a heart attack.
Kickboxer: Vengeance hits theaters on September 2, 2016.
